Douglas Stewart Carter was sentenced in 1985 for the murder of Eva Olesen, but maintained his innocence, claiming his confession was coerced. Witnesses later admitted they were pressured by police to testify against him. The Utah Supreme Court ordered a new trial due to serious police misconduct, scheduled for 2027.
