Authorities in Moldova arrested a 49-year-old Azerbaijani man for allegedly gathering intelligence for Russian special services. He was reportedly recruited in August 2026 and was preparing for diversionary activities in Moldova and Ukraine. Investigators claim he focused on military targets in Moldova and U.S. interests. A search revealed a mobile phone with contacts linked to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). The suspect is held in preventive detention for 30 days, facing charges of unauthorized information gathering, punishable by two to five years in prison. Meanwhile, Romanian authorities also detained a 40-year-old Russian man for allegedly collecting military infrastructure information and preparing sabotage acts.
