Un artist cunoscut pentru sculpturile satirice dedicate lui Mao Zedong, condamnat la închisoare pentru defăimarea „eroilor și martirilor”
Chinese dissident artist Gao Zhen was sentenced to three years in prison for defaming national heroes, following his satirical sculptures of Mao Zedong. His wife expressed devastation over the verdict, and Gao plans to appeal. Human rights advocates are calling for his immediate release, arguing that the charges are based on art created long before the law was enacted. Gao, who has been detained since a visit to China two years ago, is known for works that critique the Cultural Revolution. The law under which he was charged was tightened in 2021, targeting those who insult historical figures.
