The 2030 World Cup will feature 64 teams, as announced by CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez. This edition will celebrate the centenary of the tournament in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. Domínguez, a close associate of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, emphasized the importance of including more nations in the competition. The decision follows a previous request from CONMEBOL to host more matches in South America. Infantino has indicated that this expansion will be discussed after the 2026 World Cup, which already includes 48 teams, the largest number ever. The 2030 tournament aims to be the biggest in history, moving to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco after the initial matches.
