The European Union and the Philippines have reached a preliminary agreement on a Free Trade Agreement aimed at reducing tariffs and enhancing trade and investment. This agreement, announced by EU Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Philippine Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, marks a significant step in their negotiations. The finalization of the agreement is expected in the coming months, focusing on technical details and implementation. The deal aims to improve market access and eliminate tariffs on over 94% of tariff lines, benefiting both parties. The EU exports machinery, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural products to the Philippines, which has a population of 113 million. The agreement will also introduce public procurement rules and digital trade regulations, enhancing cooperation and reducing costs for businesses.
