The European Commission has allocated an additional €500 million to the Horizon Europe research and innovation program for 2026-2027, raising the total budget to approximately €14.8 billion. This funding will support new proposals addressing major research challenges, including next-generation AI platforms and biodiversity impacts. Two new funding opportunities have been introduced: 'Transformative Change Towards a Nature-Positive Economy and Society' with €237 million and 'Bridging Actions 2027' with €260 million. These initiatives aim to enhance biodiversity and prepare for future Horizon Europe programs.
