Google has been fined €403 million by the Irish Data Protection Commission for violating GDPR regulations regarding user geolocation data. This marks the fourth largest fine imposed by the DPC, which oversees Google in Europe. The investigation began in 2020 following complaints from consumer rights organizations about Google's handling of location data. The DPC highlighted that users were unaware their location data was being used for targeted advertising, compromising their control over personal information. Google stated that it has improved its practices since 2019 and is currently under investigation for three additional cases by the DPC.
