Tourists are booking hotels in Dunedin, New Zealand, up to two years in advance for a rare solar eclipse in 2028. The event will plunge areas into darkness for nearly three minutes. Local hotels are already fully booked for eclipse packages, and around 35,000 visitors are expected. This will be the first total solar eclipse visible in New Zealand since 1965, and the last in Dunedin occurred in 1163. A festival will coincide with the eclipse, celebrating both the cultural significance of Matariki and the astronomical event.
