Thailand is considering implementing an exit tax of approximately 1,000 baht for travelers leaving the country, alongside a 450 baht fee for foreign arrivals. This initiative aims to boost government revenue after years of budget deficits, as tourism is a significant economic contributor. However, the tourism association warns that such taxes could deter travelers and negatively impact the industry. The proposed exit tax would reactivate a previous fee and could be included in flight ticket prices. The government hopes to attract around 33 million tourists this year, despite a decline in visitor numbers compared to pre-pandemic levels.
