Turiștii au făcut ravagii într-un sit UNESCO: 10.000 de monede, aruncate printre stânci pentru „noroc”

The cleaning operation at Giant’s Causeway revealed the negative impact of tourists throwing coins into the basalt columns. Approximately 10,000 coins were manually removed over nearly 200 hours, starting in May 2025 and concluding in 2026. This long-standing practice, which began in the 1970s, has caused significant damage to the site, including rust stains and pressure on the rock formations. The National Trust has now installed panels urging visitors not to throw coins, offering a donation box instead. They are also considering using the recovered coins for an exhibition to highlight the environmental impact of seemingly harmless actions.
