Romania's tourism faces significant challenges, with a 5.7% drop in overnight stays in June 2026 and a 6.7% decrease in the first half of the year. The overall occupancy rate was only 26.7%. The National Institute of Statistics reported a 2.5% decline in tourist arrivals compared to June 2025, with domestic tourists making up 78.6% of the total. Major foreign tourist sources included Germany, Italy, and the USA, with an average stay of 2.1 days. The decline in tourism is attributed to rising prices and inflation, impacting the overall quality and value of services offered.
