Cristian Pistol, the CEO of CNAIR, announced that the construction of section 4 of the Sibiu-Pitești highway is nearly complete, pending safety tests for the Momaia tunnel. The 9.86 km section, built by the Austrian contractor PORR, has all roadworks finished, including asphalt and markings on 12 bridges and viaducts. The Momaia tunnel, measuring 1,350 meters, is also nearly finished, with ongoing tests for over 2,500 monitoring points. A final test with ISU representatives is scheduled for late September, and traffic speed in the tunnel will be limited to 80 km/h. The opening of this section is expected this year, ahead of the original deadline of February 2027, allowing traffic on 54 km of the total 122 km of the highway. The project is valued at 1.678 billion lei, funded through the 2021-2027 Transport Program.
