A new law in Bucharest will prohibit minors from renting electric scooters, requiring users to be at least 18 years old. Strict age verification will be enforced by operators through their apps. The law also bans phone use and headphones while riding, and restricts scooter use to designated bike lanes or public roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h. Scooters must not be parked on sidewalks, bike lanes, or near public transport stations. Companies must relocate improperly parked scooters within 120 minutes or face fines. Additionally, adverse weather conditions will lead to service suspension. Companies will pay an annual authorization fee and a daily fee per scooter. The new regulations will take effect 60 days after approval.
