Siemens Mobility successfully demonstrated a fully automated Mireo train operating without a driver on an open railway in Germany. The train autonomously prepared for departure, traveled the route, and detected obstacles along the way. This test was part of the AutomatedTrain research project, developed in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn and other industry partners. The system integrates automatic train operation with advanced signaling and environmental detection technologies. While the project shows the feasibility of fully automated railway operations, it does not imply immediate commercial deployment of driverless trains. The results will inform future standardization and authorization processes, addressing workforce shortages in the rail sector.
