The situation is attributed to poor energy management over the past 25 years. If the second reactor at Cernavodă shuts down, further price hikes of 10-15% could occur. Currently, Romania and Hungary are the most affected by high import prices, while Bulgaria and Poland pay around 300 euros per MWh. The ongoing heatwave is exacerbating the situation, leading to increased energy consumption and costs.
