Carlyle and the EBRD have agreed to sell Black Sea Oil & Gas to Mazarine Energy, a Dutch company. BSOG is Romania's largest offshore gas producer, supplying about 12% of the country's gas needs. The deal is pending regulatory approvals. Mazarine Energy will continue the Midia Gas Development project, which started production in 2022. Carlyle acquired BSOG in 2015, and the company has since become a key player in Romania's energy sector. Mazarine aims to enhance energy security in Romania and plans to develop new energy projects in the Black Sea.
