Uzufruct is a legal right allowing a person to use and benefit from a property owned by someone else while preserving its substance. The holder, known as the usufructuary, can live in or rent the property but does not own it. This arrangement can apply to both real and movable assets. The right can last for a person's lifetime or up to 30 years for legal entities. The owner of the property retains what is called naked ownership, meaning they cannot use or profit from the property while the usufruct is in effect. Once the usufruct ends, the naked owner regains full rights to the property.
