Former Romanian President Traian Băsescu criticized the Salary Law, deeming it a futile discussion at both national and European levels. He highlighted the challenges Romania faces in reducing its deficit while implementing the reform, noting that the law would not satisfy either public employees or the European Commission. Băsescu emphasized that Brussels is closely monitoring Romania's ability to meet its deficit objectives, and failure to adopt the law by the end of August could result in a loss of 770 million euros in funding. He argued that a more equitable and rational law could have been developed over the past decade to avoid the current excessive deficit situation.
