On Friday evening, Maramureș border police pursued three cigarette traffickers who fled towards Ukraine after abandoning their contraband. The officers fired warning shots but the suspects jumped into the Tisa River to escape. The police discovered six packages containing 3,250 packs of untaxed cigarettes worth approximately 63,000 lei, intended for illegal sale in Romania. Investigations are ongoing for smuggling and illegal border crossing, with the case supervised by a prosecutor.
