An increasing number of fathers are taking parental leave to care for their children, according to data from ANPIS. In 2025, fathers made up 14.41% of child benefit recipients, up from 13.22% the previous year. The average monthly number of fathers receiving support rose from about 21,000 in 2024 to over 21,700 in 2025. Additionally, nearly 2,000 fathers received the maximum allowance of 8,500 lei monthly in 2025, compared to around 1,500 the year before. The average allowance for fathers was approximately 3,679 lei, slightly higher than the 3,628 lei for mothers. Fathers also accounted for 31.19% of those returning to work early, reflecting their growing involvement in childcare. However, the total number of child benefit recipients decreased by 5.23% in 2025, indicating demographic changes and increased paternal engagement.
