Malnutrition among children in Afghanistan has reached critical levels in one-third of the provinces, according to the World Food Programme (WFP). The organization warns that funding shortages will lead to reduced food distributions and support. WFP's national director emphasized the urgency of action to prevent child deaths. Over 142 medical centers have closed, leaving thousands of children without nutritional treatment. Nearly 3.7 million children are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition this year, alongside 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women. Various factors, including conflict and rising food prices, contribute to this crisis, with an urgent funding need of $540 million in the next six months.
