Border police in Calafat discovered over 480,000 cigarettes worth more than 720,000 lei hidden in a truck driven by a Bulgarian citizen. The driver, aged 48, was arrested after failing to provide documentation for the cigarettes, which were found concealed among other goods. The investigation revealed that the cigarettes bore Bulgarian excise stamps but were not properly documented. The driver was held for 24 hours and later presented to the court, where he was placed under preventive arrest for 30 days. Authorities are investigating the case for potential tax evasion and illegal possession of excise goods.
