In Romania, pensioners receive annual transport vouchers allowing a 50% discount on domestic travel. This benefit, established by Law no. 147/2000, is available to public pensioners and those from other social insurance systems. Each eligible pensioner can enjoy six single journeys per year, primarily on Regio and InterRegio trains without reservation, at second class. The vouchers are not cash but special travel coupons that must be presented when purchasing discounted tickets. If a pensioner cancels a trip, they can request a refund for the ticket, but unused coupons remain valid for future travel. The National House of Public Pensions continues to issue these vouchers annually, supporting pensioners with travel costs.
