The budget deficit has decreased by 28 billion lei compared to 2025 and has fallen to 2.34% of GDP
In the first seven months of 2026, Romania's consolidated general budget deficit decreased to 48.08 billion lei, representing 2.34% of GDP, a significant reduction from the previous year. Budget revenues rose by 11.2%, while expenditures increased by only 2.9%. The Minister of Finance highlighted the importance of fiscal responsibility and support for economic growth, noting a substantial rise in investments funded by European resources. Personnel expenses decreased, while spending on goods and services increased, particularly in healthcare. The government aims to maintain fiscal discipline and accelerate the absorption of European funds to ensure sustainable economic growth.
