In Sibiu, 44 businesses applied to rent space for seasonal terraces, following a new regulation that changes how public domain space is allocated. The municipality clarified that having a public domain area in front of a business does not guarantee preferential rights. The deadline for preliminary applications was September 13, 2026, and the city will now define the areas available for terraces and organize public auctions. The new rules stipulate that only one terrace perimeter will be designated per building front, although exceptions exist for buildings with multiple fronts. The allocation will be based on three criteria: rental price, financial capacity, and the public food space's location. The starting bid is set at 2 lei per square meter per day, with the first auctions yet to be scheduled.
