NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has significantly extended its operational potential due to efficient fuel use and precise maneuvers. Initially designed for a five-year mission, it now has enough fuel for at least 22 years of scientific operations. This extension is attributed to the spacecraft's lighter weight, allowing for additional fuel storage. A successful trajectory adjustment shortly after launch further reduced fuel consumption, potentially adding four more years to its operational life. Once in orbit, the telescope will require minimal fuel for maintenance maneuvers, enabling it to conduct scientific observations until around 2048.
