Târgu Mureș, oraș-pilot într-un proiect european: Centrul are cea mai mare nevoie de infrastructură verde

A recent analysis highlights the urgent need for green infrastructure in Târgu Mureș, particularly in the city center, due to air pollution and thermal stress. The study, part of the ESPON-GILL project, assessed flood risks and the current capacity of green infrastructure to mitigate temperatures and improve air quality. Târgu Mureș was one of six European territories tested for this methodology. The analysis revealed that the highest demand for green infrastructure is in the urban core, where air pollution and heat stress overlap. The study also found that while green spaces cover 36.6% of the urban area, their effectiveness varies, with forests being the most beneficial for cooling and water retention. The report indicates that air quality in Târgu Mureș exceeds future European limits, emphasizing the need for improved green infrastructure to address these environmental challenges.
