Romania has the highest home ownership rate in the EU, with 94% of the population owning their homes. However, rental prices surged by 41.2% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to 2025. Overall, EU housing prices rose by 4.7% in the same period, while rents increased by 3%. Romania's rental price increase is significantly higher than that of other EU countries, with Croatia and Slovenia following at 22.1% and 10.2%, respectively. In contrast, Finland and France saw slight declines in housing prices. Despite the rental surge, Romania maintains a strong home ownership rate, far exceeding the EU average of 70%.
