Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have allegedly kidnapped six members of a local organization advocating for women's and children's rights. This incident occurred shortly after two UN mission members were also abducted. The six men, employees of the Legal Research Foundation for Women and Children, were detained on July 18 when they were asked to retrieve confiscated laptops and phones. Human Rights Watch has called for their immediate release unless formally charged. The UN has not received information regarding the accusations against the abducted individuals. Taliban officials have not commented on these incidents, which follow a pattern of restricting women's rights since their takeover in August 2021.
