During underwater research in Thessaloniki's port, numerous World War II projectiles were found, including heavy bombs. These munitions were likely discarded by German troops in 1944. Local authorities are seeking government assistance for further investigations and safe removal of the explosives. The port expansion project is scheduled to be completed by March 2027, necessitating the clearance of the seabed beforehand.
