Greek authorities are transferring hundreds of asylum seekers rescued near Crete to reception centers on Lesbos and Samos islands. The Ministry of Migration stated that this transfer is conducted proportionally to avoid overwhelming local facilities. The aim is to identify and monitor asylum seekers before potential relocation to mainland Greece. Despite assurances, local officials expressed concerns during a closed meeting in Mytilene. Crete has become a primary entry point for asylum seekers, and the government plans to establish a permanent reception center soon. The Greek minister is also collaborating with other EU countries to set up return centers outside the EU.
