Sorin Grindeanu, the party president, opposes this move, fearing it could harm the party's electoral prospects. This decision follows the refusal of PNL leader Ilie Bolojan and UDMR to form a coalition with PSD. If PSD declines to join the government, Niculescu may either resign or propose a technocratic government seeking parliamentary support. Bolojan stated that PNL is willing to support the government’s investiture without being part of it.
