President Nicușor Dan is considering dissolving Parliament and calling for early elections if the Luca Niculescu government fails to secure a majority. This marks a significant shift in perspective from the presidency, which previously opposed early elections despite the lack of a clear parliamentary majority. After the PSD and AUR ousted the Bolojan government, attempts to form a new government have failed. The current impasse arose when Sorin Grindeanu linked PSD's support for Niculescu's government to the inclusion of PNL and UDMR in the coalition. While PNL and UDMR are willing to vote for the government, they refuse to join a coalition with PSD. Niculescu has three days to submit his ministerial list and program to Parliament, with PSD set to decide on their vote soon. AUR, PNL, and USR are in favor of early elections, while PSD is preparing for the possibility despite not wanting them.
