The U.S. denied a visa to Alexander Alimov, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister, preventing his participation in the UN General Assembly. Kirill Logvinov from the Russian Foreign Ministry criticized this as a violation of U.S. obligations as the host country of the UN. Alimov was set to engage in various bilateral and multilateral meetings during the assembly, which runs from September 22 to 26. This is not the first instance, as he was also denied a visa for a Security Council meeting in May. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that the U.S. is failing its responsibilities regarding UN hosting duties. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the assembly.
