Modern humans have inherited a gene from Neanderthals that enhances muscle mass growth, discovered through recent research. This gene, linked to growth hormone receptors, was likely transferred during interbreeding around 47,000 years ago. While nearly all Neanderthals possessed this gene, only about 10% of modern humans do, with higher prevalence in certain populations. The study analyzed Neanderthal and Denisovan DNA samples from archaeological sites and compared them with over 1.1 million modern human genomes.
