STUDIU: Suplimentele cu calciu şi vitamina D oferă o protecţie nesemnificativă sau inexistentă în faţa riscului de fracturi la vârstnici

A recent analysis published in The BMJ indicates that calcium and vitamin D supplements may offer minimal protection against falls and fractures in older adults. Despite their long-standing association with bone health, the study found that these supplements do not significantly reduce the risk of fractures or falls. Researchers reviewed 69 randomized controlled trials involving over 153,000 adults, concluding that routine supplementation is not supported by current evidence. They recommend reevaluating guidelines on these supplements and suggest focusing on proven strategies like balance training and resistance exercises to prevent falls. Overall, preventing falls in the elderly may require more than just supplementation.
