A recent study published in The Lancet highlights a concerning decline in childhood vaccination rates across several European countries, including Romania, since the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis covered vaccination levels for seven childhood vaccines in 27 EU countries over 40 years. While some countries achieved high vaccination rates, Romania fell below 80%. The study noted a general decline in vaccination rates in 16 EU countries, particularly for meningitis B and polio vaccines. Researchers emphasize the urgent need to maintain high vaccination coverage to prevent the resurgence of infectious diseases, as the pandemic has disrupted healthcare systems and fueled misinformation.
