In 2025, Romanians spent over 42 billion euros in retail, marking a 5.6% increase from 2024 and a 77% rise since 2019. The study by Cushman & Wakefield Echinox indicates that 11 out of 13 retail categories saw positive growth, with supermarkets leading at 25.7 billion euros. The DIY sector also expanded, while cosmetics and food & beverage categories experienced significant growth. Despite economic challenges, the retail market demonstrated resilience, driven by both new store openings and increased sales. The report highlights a shift in consumer behavior towards modern retail experiences.
