STUDIU: Reducerea masei musculare este asociată cu un risc mai mare de demenţă

A recent Australian study indicates that muscle mass loss with aging may signal increased dementia risk. Analyzing over 80 studies, researchers found that individuals with sarcopenia had a 42% higher chance of developing dementia. The study also revealed that the relationship between obesity and dementia varies with age. Obesity in midlife raised dementia risk by 9%, while in those over 65, it was associated with a 17% lower risk. However, this should not be seen as a benefit of weight gain. The findings highlight the need for maintaining healthy body composition and muscle function as people age.
