The bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis, associated with gum disease, can enter the bloodstream and contribute to various health problems, including heart disease. Recent studies on mice showed that exposure to this bacteria led to increased calcification in aortic valves, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for inflammation related to infections. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings in humans.
