STUDIU: Grăsimea abdominală prezice mai bine riscul de boli cardiace decât indicele de masă corporală

Research indicates that waist circumference is a more accurate predictor of heart disease risk than body mass index (BMI). Studies show that visceral fat around abdominal organs is linked to chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes. The analysis of data from over 260,000 individuals over 20 years revealed that those with a higher waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio had a significantly increased risk of fatal and non-fatal strokes and heart diseases. Experts suggest that focusing solely on BMI may lead to misclassification of cardiovascular risk, emphasizing the importance of including waist measurements in routine assessments.
