Foreign tourists increasingly prefer Airbnb and Booking for accommodations in Romania, while locals favor hotels. Eurostat data reveals over 4.5 million overnight stays in the first half of the year, with more than half booked by international visitors. Romania has around 74,000 tourist rental units, but only about 19,000 are officially registered. The market generates nearly one billion euros annually, with a significant portion potentially unreported for tax purposes.
