The proposal by Bucharest's mayor Ciprian Ciucu to mandate the STB Board to initiate insolvency proceedings was approved by city councilors. Ciucu emphasized that insolvency is necessary to ensure salary payments and prevent the city's bankruptcy. During an emergency meeting, 39 councilors voted in favor, while seven abstained. He argued that without insolvency, STB would inevitably face bankruptcy, and highlighted the financial unsustainability of public transport in Bucharest. The mayor stated that insolvency would protect STB from additional penalties and allow for financial restructuring, as the company's debt could reach 3 billion lei due to ongoing legal disputes and supplier debts.
