Starting August 19, 2026, a new law in Romania will provide non-reimbursable funds for installing lifts in buildings without elevators, benefiting vulnerable residents. The program aims to enhance accessibility for the elderly and people with reduced mobility in urban areas. It covers various technical solutions and requires at least one vulnerable person living in the building. A pilot project will select up to 100 condominiums, funded by European grants and local budgets. Associations of owners must initiate the process, and while initial installation costs are covered, ongoing maintenance will be the owners' responsibility.
