French company Mistral AI has unveiled its new AI model, Mistral Large 4 (ML4), claiming it to be one of the most advanced open models globally, surpassing similar solutions outside China. The model features 1 trillion parameters and is designed for complex applications in cybersecurity, programming, industry, and finance. Mistral recently secured €3 billion in funding, enhancing its position among Europe's top AI startups. ML4 was trained over two months using 4,000 Nvidia GPUs and will initially be available in a preliminary version for developers and public authorities. Mistral acknowledges that while ML4 lags behind the most advanced AI systems in some areas, it expects improvements as training capacity expands. The launch comes as Western developers aim to counter the lead of Chinese companies in the open model market.
