The Russian Ministry of Defense plans to reclaim part of the one-time payment given to contract military personnel found guilty of crimes, amid rising domestic violence cases among soldiers. This decision follows reports of hundreds of incidents, including murders, since the invasion began. A minimum one-time payment of 400,000 rubles is offered to those signing contracts for at least a year to fight in Ukraine. The ministry aims to deter criminal behavior by withholding part of these payments for those convicted of non-imprisonable offenses. Although official statistics on domestic violence among soldiers are lacking, independent media have reported numerous cases since 2022.
