Sofia is among the eight finalists for the title of European Capital of Tourism 2027, selected from 43 candidates across 18 countries. The city's candidacy was prepared by the Sofia Municipal Tourism Agency, focusing on accessibility, sustainability, digitalization, and cultural heritage. Mayor Vasil Terziev expressed confidence in Sofia's potential to showcase its rich history and modern energy. The proposal emphasizes the city's compactness and connectivity, presenting it as a unique experience for both visitors and residents. The final presentations to the European jury will take place in November 2026, where two winning cities will be chosen.
