Romania ranks 20th out of 23 European markets in the 2026 Transparency Index for used car markets, despite a slight improvement from last year. Over half of the inspected used cars in Romania had recorded damages, and the proportion of vehicles with altered mileage increased, even though the average mileage rollback decreased. The average rollback was 85,779 km, down 9.8% from the previous year. The study indicates that 58.5% of inspected cars had damage history, with the average damage value remaining stable at €3,291. The UK remains the safest market, while Eastern European markets, including Romania, face significant risks due to high import dependence and limited access to vehicle history data.
