Șoc energetic global. Până în 2030, centrele de date vor consuma curent cât economia Japoniei • Newsweek România
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure is expected to significantly increase electricity consumption by data centers globally. By 2030, data centers could consume up to 945 TWh of electricity annually, equivalent to Japan's entire economy. Currently, they account for about 1.5% of global electricity use, but this is projected to double by the end of the decade. The main driver of this surge is the high demand for computing power needed for AI training and operation. While conventional servers will see moderate growth, those dedicated to AI could increase consumption by around 30% annually, raising concerns about the sustainability of energy networks. Major regions like the US, China, and Europe are seeking reliable and green energy sources to prevent supply crises.
