The mayor of Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, announced increased monitoring and repeated interventions in the area of Piaţa Sfânta Vineri due to a video showing rats on the sidewalk. He attributed the rat problem to food waste thrown by people feeding pigeons, which attracts the rodents. The area is managed by the Sector 3 City Hall, which has been working on sanitation since May. Despite efforts, including the application of rodenticides, the situation remains problematic due to ongoing littering and vandalism of treatment stations. The municipality is taking further steps to improve the area and prevent rat burrowing by modifying the soil and vegetation.
